Atropine eye drops are the simplest solution for myopia treatment. It is a pharmacological eye drop that has to be instilled in the eye right before bedtime. Atropine is a non-specific muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist which affects the sclera and reduces its elasticity. This makes it difficult for the retina to stretch.
Low doses of atropine such as 0.01%, 0.025% and 0.05% are said to be effective in slowing down the progression of myopia. The effect of atropine is dose dependent. Side effects of atropine are glare and near blur with higher doses and accessibility to lower doses.
